About The Authors

Ruth Tal Brown
Ruth's first location, a seasonal juice bar, opened at the Bamboo Club in 1991. One year later, she moved to a permanent location in the newly renovated Queen St. Market, where she developed the signature juices and dishes that form the core of the Juice for Life concept. In 1995 Ruth opened the Bloor St. Juice for Life restaurant. In June 1998 she opened the Queen St. café, a larger improved version of the Queen St. Market. Both locations have received numerous awards over the years for 'Best Vegetarian' from the local Toronto press. Juice for Life was also selected as 'Best Juice Bar in North America' as featured on the Food Network and was named one of the top 20 most influential restaurants in Toronto by Now Magazine.

Dubbed the 'Queen of the Canadian Juice Bar Scene" by the Globe and Mail, Ruth became a bestselling author with the release of her first cookbook, Juice for Life: Modern Food and Luscious Juice, in 2001. The following year, Ruth changed the restaurants' name to Fresh by Juice for Life and opened the third downtown Toronto location in the Queen West gallery district, which has won international, national and provincial architectural and design awards. In August 2003, Ruth taped 13 segments for Flex, a Raptors / NBA TV show featuring dishes and juices from the Fresh menus.
